Your Property Was Targeted — What Now?

If your home, synagogue, school, or Jewish community center was vandalized with antisemitic symbols, threats, or physical damage, this guide walks you through how to document it, report it, and get support — both legal and emotional.

🔹 Immediate Actions (Step 1)

  • File a police report immediately
→ Call your local police department or visit their station
  • Photograph the damage from multiple angles
  • Do not clean or erase anything until police or investigators document it
  • Submit the incident to national hate tracking systems:
  • Consider contacting your state hate crime unit
→ Search “Hate Crime Unit” + [Your State] or consult your state attorney general’s website
  • If perpetrators are identifiable, report to Canary Mission

🔹 Step 2: Document Everything

  • Take photos/videos of the scene — before, during, and after clean-up
  • Save any physical evidence (flyers, paint cans, etc.) in a safe bag
  • Keep a written record of the event, including:
    • Date, time, location
    • Witness names (if applicable)
    • Police report number
