Know Your Rights: Title VI and Campus Antisemitism

Jewish students are protected under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
This law prohibits discrimination based on race, color, or national origin — and includes antisemitism. If you’re facing harassment, bias, or retaliation at a federally funded school, here’s how to take action.

✅ What Title VI Covers

• Ongoing harassment by professors or students
• Exclusion from classes or programs
• Biased grading or disciplinary action
• A hostile learning environment
• Retaliation for reporting discrimination

⚖️ How to Use Title VI

File a Complaint with the Office for Civil Rights (OCR)

⏳ What to Expect After Filing

• The OCR may take weeks to respond — delays are normal
• You will be assigned a case number and investigator
• You may be asked for additional documentation or updates
• Investigations can take several months to complete

🏆 Examples of Title VI in Action

UCLA: OCR found the school mishandled complaints about repeated antisemitic discrimination
CUNY Law: Investigated for ignoring widespread antisemitic incidents during student protests
Rutgers University: Title VI complaint helped bring outside pressure for policy reform

🚨 If Your School Retaliates or Stonewalls
